Sarajevo International Airport awarded with ACI – ACA (Airport Carbon Accreditation) certificate level 1

Sarajevo International Airport has started with implementation of the ACA (Airport Carbon Accreditation) at the beginning of this year with the aim of implementing systematic CO2 emissions management and certification of the airport Sarajevo for level 1 – Mapping. The Mapping is a process connected to identifying the source of emissions for everyday airport activities and the calculation of the carbo emissions per year.

The accreditation of the airport according to the ACA Programme is done by the Airport Council International pursuant to clearly predefined criteria and standards. This programme independently evaluates and recognizes the efforts put in by the airports for the management and reduction of the carbon emissions. After all activities planned for the first level of accreditation were successfully completed, Sarajevo International Airport fulfilled all of the requirements set forth and was officially accredited pursuant to the ACA for level 1 – Mapping. Thus we became one of 155 airports worldwide accredited for the level 1 and which measure its carbon footprint.

The Management Board and the Supervisory Board of Sarajevo International Airport are committed and devoted to implementation of business solutions targeting reduction of negative impacts on environment.

„We strive for natural resources and environment smart management which is to say that an approach of sustainable development and sustainable management of natural resources is in our focus through all infrastructural projects we launch and implement at SIA. It is well known that B&H is a signatory of the 2030 Agenda which provides a framework for implementation of sustainable development goals. I believe that we all need to do what is up to us in order to be a strong link in a chain in relation to fulfilling the goals set forth pursuant to the Agenda. In our case, sustainability is about water waste, air emissions management etc. The Management Board headed by me is committed that the growth of the airport business operations and other areas, primarily transport and tourism, is directed towards sustainable tourism, with an objective to enhance the quality of life and to maximize savings significantly. I believe that with the implementation of the measures being on a trail of sustainable development (carbon emissions reduction, use of renewable source of energy etc.) may ensure a significant return of investments. In any case, the ACA Accreditation is extremely significant not just for Sarajevo International Airport but for B&H because we become the airport recognizable in the region and Europe for its commitment to the environment protection.'' the Managing Director Alan Bajić said.
